Search results priority

With so many different search capabilities, learn about how products are ranked or boosted within the search results.

The following image shows the order in which creatives and products appear on the search results page:

  1. Display banner ads appear at the beginning of the search results list. Banners have the highest priority.
  2. Sponsored products are intermingled within the search results and the position depends on factors that are determined by the Ads service.
  3. Previously purchased products are boosted if they are part of the organic search result set. By default, previously purchased products within the first 30 items of the organic search results are eligible to be boosted. Instacart boosts up to two purchased products to the 4th and 5th item tiles. For example, assume the 6th, 12th, and 25th item in the organic search results were previously purchased by the customer. The 6th item is boosted to the 4th item tile. The 12th item is boosted to the 5th item tile. Since two items were already boosted, the 25th item is not boosted.
  4. Organic search results appear after the boosted products.
