Cart and checkout overview

As customers shop, their selections are added to their cart. At any time, they can see the total cost of the items they've selected and review the items in the cart. When they are ready to buy the items, they click a button to go to checkout.

The checkout process leads the customer through providing the information necessary to fulfill their order. The process is similar for all Instacart Storefront storefronts, but you can decide which alternative payment methods you want to support. After a customer finishes checking out and places their order, the contents of their cart is converted to an order. The order is batched and assigned to a shopper to fulfill.

The cart and checkout flow consists of the following key stages:

1. Cart
2. Checkout aisle recommendations
3. Checkout
4. Replacements
5. Pickup confirmation (for pickup orders only)
6. Post-checkout recommendations
