Why can units of measurement be different for similar products? For example, why might one box of raspberries be "1 each" while another is "1 lb container"?

The Instacart catalog database inherits data from multiple sources, such as content service providers (CSP), retailer inventory files, and ads partners. The Instacart catalog team focuses on making sure incoming product sizes are correct and will normalize the abbreviation of units of measurement, such as changing FL oz and floz to the standard fl oz. The team doesn't convert one unit of measurement to another, which means items from different brands or sources may not use a consistent unit of measurement.
