Sign-on experience

The sign-on experience encourages visitors to sign up for an account and log in. In most implementations, visitors are required to log in to continue shopping. The iOS app, however, includes an option for visitors to shop as a guest to comply with Apple App Store Review Guidelines. The guest must log in to a customer account to place an order.

Sign-on services

You choose which types of sign-on services to provide to your customers:

In all cases, only an authorized customer can access their customer account details through the storefront.

Sign-on opportunities

Customers can sign up or log in at multiple stages of their shopping journey.

Signing up for an account

To encourage visitors to sign up for an account, make it as easy as possible. Ask for the minimal amount of information to create an account, such their email address, password, and address. If you do ask for more information, make those fields optional. You can collect more information when the customer makes their first purchase.

Checking out the cart

When a customer checks out, the storefront prompts for any additional information needed to fulfill the order, such as the delivery address and payment methods. If a cart contains alcohol or over-the-counter medication, the storefront requests the customer's date of birth.

Logging in to an account

Customers can choose to remain logged in. If a customer is not logged in, the storefront displays the log-in form. Customers log in with the option they used to create their account.
