Click-to-redeem offers

Temporarily deprecated

This feature was temporarily deprecated. For more information, see the changelog.

Instacart supports click-to-redeem offers where customers can click a link or scan a QR code to redeem the offer. You can use click-to-redeem offers to drive customers to shop at your storefront on Instacart Marketplace or your e-commerce site. For example, you might offer $10 off their first online order over $35.

Here are some examples of where you can use click-to-redeem offers:

  • In-store marketing. Distribute printed marketing materials to your customers, or position printed materials throughout the store in high traffic areas for visibility. For example, at checkout, your cashier places a marketing poster with a special offer into your customers’ shopping bag. Customers can scan the QR code on the poster to claim the offer.

The following example shows an in-store marketing poster:

Shows an in-store marketing poster with a QR code and the “Shop online, save time in line. Get up to $50 Off” incentive.

  • Advertisements. Create advertisements, such as billboards or social media posts, with a direct link to where customers can redeem the offer.

  • Online marketing. Send an email blast with a direct link for customers to redeem the offer.

Example journey

  1. The customer scans the QR code or clicks a direct link in an email campaign.

The customer is directed to a landing page on your storefront.

Shows a landing page with the offer and a button to "Claim offer".

  2. The customer clicks Claim offer.

  3. The customer signs up or logs into their account.

Instacart checks whether the customer is eligible for the reward. If eligible, the storefront confirms that the offer was claimed.

Shows a message to confirm that the customer claimed the offer.

  4. The customer clicks Start shopping.

On Instacart Marketplace, customers are reminded about their offer in a popover.

Shows the popover on the Instacart app.

    note

Retailer e-commerce sites do not have the popover functionality.

  5. The customer adds items to their cart and views their cart.

  6. The reward is applied at checkout.

Shows the checkout page with the discounts automatically applied.

Configuration

To create click-to-redeem offers, contact your Instacart representative. Your representative can help you create your campaigns, create direct links, and generate QR codes for your marketing needs.

Ensure that you discuss the following information with your representative:

  • Target storefront. Determine whether to target your e-commerce site or your storefront on Instacart Marketplace.
  • Target audience. Determine who can redeem the offer. You can target new customers or lapsed customers. New customers are customers who have never placed an order on your digital storefront. Lapsed customers are customers whose last purchase on your digital storefront was over 28 days ago.
  • Offer. Set the offer value, such as $10 off their first online order over $35.

After your click-to-redeem campaign goes live, you can track its performance in Instacart Platform Portal. For more information, see Campaigns with offers dashboard.
