Gifting

The gifting feature enables your customers to send a delivery order as a gift to friends and family. At checkout, customers can view and expand the gifting section to enter the recipient’s name and phone number along with an optional gift message. Customers can also send a digital greeting card with the gift. They can then place the order as a gift. This feature is available for orders that contain alcohol and non-alcohol items.

To promote awareness about the gifting feature, design a placement for your storefront. For example, you can announce gifting to your customers with a hero banner.

Example journey

When the customer is on the checkout page, they can see the gifting section. After the customer adds a payment method, they can expand the gifting section to see the available options. In this journey, the customer sends a delivery order as a gift to another person.

After the customer places the order, the post-checkout flow remains the same for the order except for the additional text messages that are sent to the customer and the recipient of the gift. This text message contains a link to a gift tracking page. While the shopper picks the items in the order, they can send messages to the customer about replacements and refunds, and the customer makes decisions on them.

  1. The customer starts the checkout process and adds a payment method.

    The gifting section becomes available for the customer to expand and enter details.

    Shows the gifting section, which contains the To and From fields, the Choose a digital card option, and the Personal message field.

  2. The customer enters the recipient’s name and phone number.

  3. (Optional) The customer selects a digital greeting card and enters a personal message.

  4. The customer clicks Save and then clicks Place order.

  5. The e-commerce site sends the text messages about the gift to the customer and the recipient.

  6. The customer and the recipient click the link to view the progress of the order on a gift tracking page.

  7. The shopper picks the items in the order, checks out, and takes the order out for delivery.

  8. The shopper can call the recipient to discuss hand-off details.

  9. The shopper arrives at the delivery location and delivers the gift to the recipient.

  10. The recipient receives the gift.

Digital greeting cards

Design a selection of digital greeting cards that reflect your brand. You can create up to ten different greeting cards. Each card must be 1764x1260 pixels and saved as a PNG file. Work with your Instacart representative to display your branded digital greeting cards.

By default, the standard digital greeting cards are displayed.
