Shopper-provided item details
Shoppers can offer replacement items to customers even when the item is not in the catalog that was shared with Instacart. The shopper enters the item details manually in the Instacart Shopper app. These manually inputted item details appear in shopper-provided item details fields in the delivered callback and get order response.
For example, an order includes a 5 oz bag of candy for $1.99, but the store doesn't have it in stock. The store does have an 8 oz bag for $2.59. The shopper suggests the larger package as a replacement item, and the customer accepts the suggestion. The shopper tries to scan the barcode, but the barcode doesn’t scan. Instead, the shopper enters the item details manually, including the item name and price.
Connect can’t access the catalog properties of unscanned items, including identifying codes, such as RRC, UPC, and scancode. These unscanned items can cause discrepancies between what you charge your customers and what Instacart charges you. You can use the shopper-provided fields to identify items that weren’t scanned and charge your customers the correct amount.
Shopper-provided item details fields are available when none of the identifying codes, such as RRC, UPC, and scancodes, are present.
