Reconciliation
Reconciliation is the process of comparing the two distinct transactions for an order to check that the data match. Retailers can send their point of sale (POS) transaction information to Instacart. Instacart uses POS transaction information to match the POS transactions against online transactions and identify mismatches. If there are mismatches, Instacart adjusts the customer invoice.
Matching occurs at the order-level and item-level. To reconcile the order, Instacart leverages transaction information, such as the BIN, timestamp, total, subtotal, and taxes.
For example, a customer makes an online payment for 2 lb of apples. Then the shopper picks and makes an in-store payment for 2.1 lb of apples. The retailer sends the POS transaction information to Instacart. Instacart matches the POS transaction against the online transaction and identifies the mismatched item weight, subtotal, and total. Instacart adjusts the customer invoice to reflect the correct information.
