Payment methods
You can offer a variety of payment methods on your storefront. The payment methods are set at the retailer level, which means that the same set of payment methods are available in all your store locations.
Payment methods are divided into core payment methods and alternative payment methods. Ideally, you offer more than one type of payment method in each category to ensure that your customers have some flexibility with their payment options.
Core payment methods
You must support at least one core payment method. In practice, retailers typically offer credit card and debit card, and might also offer a selection of other core payment methods.
The core payment methods include:
- Credit card, such as Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, American Express
- Debit card
- Prepaid card
- PayPal
- Apple Pay (iOS and Safari)
- Klarna
Instacart Storefront uses Stripe to process credit card, debit card, and prepaid card payments. For more information, see Stripe.
(Storefront Pro 5) To opt-out of the Klarna payment method, contact your Instacart representative.
Alternative payment methods
Select the alternative payment methods that suit the needs of your business and customer base.
The alternative payment methods can include:
- Instacart credits. Customers can receive credits for things like referring friends and resolving order and fulfillment issues and customers with Instacart+ memberships can receive credits for eligible pickup orders. - Instacart gift cards. Customers can use Instacart gift cards that they buy through the Instacart App or the web app. For more information, see Purchase a gift card in the Instacart Help Center.
- SNAP EBT. Customers can use their SNAP EBT card to pay for eligible items. For more information about how to apply for and set up SNAP EBT, see SNAP EBT.
Customers cannot use Klarna in conjunction with SNAP EBT. To use SNAP EBT, a different payment method must be selected for the order.
