Preference Picker
With Preference Picker, customers can set a preference for certain items when they add them to their cart. For produce, customers choose a ripeness level, such as how ripe they want their bananas or avocados. For deli items, customers choose a slice thickness. The shopper sees the preference as a picking instruction on the item. After the order is picked, the customer automatically receives a message that tells them whether their preference was met.
To enable this feature, contact your Instacart representative.

When a customer adds an eligible item to their cart, a Confirm your preference sheet appears. Each option shows an image and a short label. The first time a customer confirms a preference, a confirmation screen appears. After that, a brief confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen.
Preferences are saved for each customer. Every 30 days, customers get a prompt to review their preference. Customers can view and update their preference at any time from any of these places:
- The item's product details page
- Their cart, by selecting the preference label on the item
- The order status page, before the order is picked
If a customer closes the sheet without choosing an option, no preference is saved. The sheet appears again the next time the customer adds the item to their cart.
Preferences are shared across all members of a family account.
Supported items
Preference Picker is available for the following items when they're in your catalog:

Preference Picker doesn't apply to catering items, configurable products, or deli meats sold in pre-packaged form.
For seasonal produce, a note appears on the sheet when an item is out of season to let customers know availability may be limited.
If Preference Picker doesn't appear for deli items after the feature is enabled, confirm that those items are cataloged as sold by weight at the deli counter. Deli items cataloged as pre-packaged products aren't eligible.
