Content Service Providers

A content service provider (CSP) is a third-party platform that aggregates your product data and distributes it to retailers and ecommerce partners, including Instacart. Working with a CSP is the primary way you can syndicate product content—including images, product names, sizes, and other attributes—to Instacart at scale.

Who we work with

Instacart accepts product content submissions from a select list of content service providers.

United States and Canada

The following CSPs are available in both the United States and Canada.

  • Salsify
  • Syndigo

United States

The following CSPs are available in the United States only.

  • IX-One
  • SPINS (not available as a preferred CSP)
  • Nielsen Brand Bank
  • 1WorldSync (requires Instacart's GLN: 1200180022390)

Required submission fields

The following product information attributes are required by Instacart for all CSP submissions:

  • UPC number—the sellable Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). For more information about UPC standards, visit gs1us.org.
  • Manufacturer name
  • Brand name
  • Product name
  • Size value
  • Size UOM
  • Unit count

For more information about your CSP's content submission requirements, contact the customer success manager at your CSP.

Image requirements

Instacart uses only the most recently received image data for each product. This means that every image that you want displayed for a product must be included every time your CSP submits content.

Preferred CSP

A preferred CSP is the provider your brand designates to syndicate product content to Instacart.

When a preferred CSP is set for a product, Instacart prioritizes content from that source for the following attributes:

  • Brand name
  • Product title
  • Images
  • Size
  • Details
  • Directions

If no preferred CSP is set for a product, or if the preferred CSP is set but Instacart is not receiving content from that CSP, Instacart uses the default prioritization logic to determine the best data source for each attribute. For details on how prioritization works across content types, see Source prioritization.

Preferred CSP is configured per UPC. To set or update the preferred CSP for your products, contact your Instacart representative.

Content visibility after submission

New or updated content is typically visible on Instacart storefronts within 48 hours. After you submit product content through your CSP, Instacart syndicates the content across eligible retailer partners.

A small number of retailers prioritize their own product content over content sourced from a CSP or the product library. If your content isn't displaying as expected for a specific retailer, the discrepancy is likely related to the retailer's configuration. Contact the retailer directly to resolve any issues. If your content isn't displaying correctly for most or all retailers, it's more likely related to your CSP's submission or source prioritization settings.

note

Instacart is prohibited from sharing individual retailer configuration details with our advertising partners.
