Images
Product images are one of the most influential factors in a customer's purchasing decision. Instacart displays images from multiple sources—retailers, content service providers (CSPs), and product library in Ads Manager—and uses source prioritization logic to determine which image is displayed on the storefront.
To ensure your brand's images are displayed accurately and consistently, follow these guidelines when submitting product images through your CSP or the product library.
Size and resolution
Ensure that images meet the following size and resolution requirements:
- Accepted formats: JPEG, JPG, PNG
- Recommended size and resolution: 1000 × 1000 pixels at 300 ppi
- Minimum size: 600 × 600 pixels
- Maximum size: 4000 × 4000 pixels
- Maximum file size: 3 MB
Image composition
Use the following guidelines to ensure high-quality representations of your products:
- Show the product on a pure white or transparent background.
- Show the product using straight-on rather than angled perspectives.
- Ensure that the entire product is in-frame and not touching the edges of the image.
- Ensure that the image is sharp and in focus, with clean, smooth edges.
- Use only photo-realistic images. Do not use two-dimensional illustrations, CGI renders, or AI-generated lifestyle photos.
- Do not include supplemental text or images, such as product information, promotions, or banners.
Multiple-image hierarchy
Instacart supports up to 10 images per product. One image is designated as the primary image, while all others are considered secondary. The following is the supported image hierarchy:
- Primary (main image, used as the hero image on the storefront)
- Angle Left
- Angle Right
- Angle Back
- Angle Top
- Lifestyle
- Ingredients (typically a close-up image of the nutrition facts label)
- Nutrition
- Drugs
- Supplements
Instacart requires a primary image before processing secondary images.
