Manage campaigns and budgets

This feature is available to retailers only.

Beta refers to pre-release features or products that are under active development and available for users to try out.

After you launch a sponsored listing, use the campaign management page to check status, edit settings that stay open, pause the campaign, and add budget when spend runs out.

View your campaigns

  1. In Ads Manager, open the campaign management page.
  2. From the product list, select Sponsored listings.

The page lists your campaigns and their status. From here you can filter by status, date range, or banner, turn a campaign on or off with the Enabled toggle, open a campaign to see its promotion ad groups, and export your data.

Campaign statuses

StatusWhat it means
ActiveThe campaign is live and competing in the auction.
ScheduledThe campaign is set up and waiting for its start date.
PausedThe campaign has been paused and isn't serving.
Out of budgetThe campaign has spent its lifetime budget. The campaign and all of its promotion ad groups stopped serving.
EndedThe campaign has reached its end date.
DraftThe campaign has been saved but not yet launched.

Each promotion ad group also shows its own status. If the campaign is Out of budget, its promotion ad groups appear as Paused, even if they still have promotion budget remaining.

Add or duplicate a promotion ad group

You can add promotion ad groups to a running campaign at any time. New ad groups follow the campaign's schedule and can't extend past the campaign end date.

  1. Open the campaign overview.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Add ad group.
    • Open the menu next to an existing ad group and select Duplicate.

Pause or resume a campaign

You can pause a campaign at any time. A paused campaign stops competing in the auction, so you aren't charged for new clicks, and its promotions stop serving too.

  1. On the campaign management page, find the campaign.
  2. Use the Enabled toggle to pause the campaign.
  3. To resume, turn the Enabled toggle back on.

Respond when a budget runs out

Your campaign budget and your promotion budgets run separately and can't be pooled, so either one can run out first. A sponsored listing needs funds in both to keep serving. In every case, adding budget reactivates your sponsored listing.

ScenarioWhat happensWhat to do
A promotion runs out of budgetThat promotion ad group stops serving, even if the campaign still has budget. If every promotion in the campaign runs out, the whole sponsored listing stops.Increase the promotion budget.
The campaign budget runs outThe campaign status changes to Out of budget. All promotion ad groups stop serving, even if they still have promotion budget. Customers who already clipped the promotion can no longer use it.Increase the campaign budget. Paused promotion ad groups resume automatically.
Both budgets run outEverything stops serving.Increase both the campaign budget and the promotion budget.

Ads Manager notifies you when an individual promotion runs out of budget, so you can move budget to your other promotions, and when the full campaign budget is used, so you can add to your total spend.

warning

Budgets sync between systems, so there can be a short delay (typically a few minutes) between a budget running out and serving stopping. Clicks during that window are billed.

Monitor spend

The Ad spend column on the campaign management page shows how much of your lifetime budget has been used. Open a promotion ad group to see its Spend. Spend is updated daily and reflects charges through the previous day.
